This is our new kitten. If you read Saturday’s post, you will notice a) she is not black and white and b) her name is not ‘Tessie’. We cannot settle on a name, ‘Tessie’ just doesn’t seem right, so if you have any suggestions, please go right ahead.
She IS a girl though, which is unusual for a ginger cat, so says my neighbour. Apparently most ginger cats are male.
It also seems from the amount of sneezing and sniffling I’ve been doing over the past few hours that I am somewhat allergic to our new friend. Great.
I’ve also been reminded how much wet cat food stinks
I’ve also been reminded that cats don’t like their tails being pulled. My son refuses to listen.
I do like though that out of the 9,000 cats our local shelter puts down every year we were able to save one. That bit is okay by me.

I cannot sign off without mentioning the devastating bushfires that have torn through our state this weekend. A friend of ours was up in Kinglake, one of the worst hit spots, helping his brother-in-law save his house. I was up late Saturday night, talking on the phone, checking in to see what was happening, watching the updates as they came in on the news. Then yesterday I discovered the fires came closer to where we live than I’d realised, up the road a little way. When I think of the pain, the tragedy, of families being trapped in their cars, loss of homes and possessions, it’s heart breaking.
I think of the firefighters. The CFA volunteers. I think I’ve found my cause to benefit for next year. Remind me, people.
In the meantime you can DONATE HERE to help those in need.

Good to know you’ve saved one precious animal.

hmm, a name… perhaps write down a few shortlist suggestions and put them on pieces of paper on the floor, then let the cat go and see which one she walks towards, so she can pick her own name…
The fires are very sad. I’m glad the weather has turned today- hopefully it should bring some respite.
She looks like a Ginny…Ginger…Miss G…or a Sheila
She is almost identical to a female kitten that we used to have. The spouse called our girl ‘Boots’ because she used to hide amongst the boots.. unfortunately ‘Boots’ developed a taste for frogs, so I gave her away..
This doesn’t help with a name though does it? Hmmm she looks like a Missy to me.
cheers kim

I was also going to add the link to the Red Cross website, but it looks like the website is down (high traffic volumes maybe?).
The Firies are saints. Absolute saints.
And gorgeous kitten!

Comment plugin seems to be on the blink, eh? Wish I knew how to fix it
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks also all for your suggestions. Ginny was in the running, as was jessie, but now I think it’s “Whiskers”. I like “Whiskey” too.
She looks like a “Keeper” to me!
Thank you for saving her.

She’s a cutie – I had a ginger tabby who was female and I was surprised too, because I had always been told that ginger cats were always male. Her name was Gretchen. Feel free to use it if it suits. I imagine your sniffling will die down as you get used to having her in the house. You might wipe her down with a wet washcloth – she probably has a lot of other shelter pet dander on her right now.
