The ‘Siege of the Spider’  …
This was taken last night. Keira kindly provided a chair for the cat to use in achieving her objective, in case those few extra inches would help her reach the ceiling. Instead the cat found it an acceptable resting perch.

“In the modern way of knowing, there have to be images for something to become “real.” Photographs identify events. Photographs confer importance on events and make them memorable.” Susan Sontag

Like many parents, I spend a decent chunk of my weekend waiting for classes or activities to finish. And if you’re like me, you spend a [...]

We call it the ol’ book shuffle

Last Wednesday night, I spoke about my … well, I’d say ‘nerves’ about the digital age of books. I wondered aloud about what might happen to our bookshops and libraries; how they might be affected; on a business level, certainly, but my concern was on a cultural, even personal, level. For me, nothing compares to [...]

Happy Australia Day

We’re supposed to be eating a whole lot of lamb today, according to Sam Kekovich and the MLA (Meat and Livestock Australia), however I find as those ads grow increasingly tedious, they actually have triggered a sort of…weary defiance within me. Home again

A strange summer’s chill passed over Melbourne this week, and upon this front my family arrived back in town.
They’d left me alone for ten days; ten days of peace and time; of thinking and of being nothing, existing in this house. ‘Creative seclusion’ you might say. In the morning I would enter my children’s rooms to [...]

I mean – just look at our garden this time last year! They were looking less like tomatoes than Triffids.
And 2010? Well, we harvested for the first time today.
This [...]

Dream Larger

I recently bought this badge for fifty cents at a thrift store and attached it to the inside of my handbag. Hopefully every time I look in there – which is often! – I will take a little inspiration.
This is until my son finds it, I’m sure, and he’ll decide it’s his to play with. [...]

Our Christmas Day

1. Keira practising on her new scooter. Riley also got one, but I haven’t gotten a photo of him on his yet. Funny, Keira is more confident on this than her bike; Riley is the opposite.
2. This is Riley’s loop-the-loop Hot Wheels, which he adores.
3. This is me pondering my next move of The Amazing Mammoth Hunt. [...]
