Do you remember my grandfather who I asked to keep in your thoughts three weeks ago as he’d just had investigative surgery into potential prostate cancer?

Well this 81 year old man was helping his neighbour brand cattle during the week (as you do when you’ve been ill) and a black and white heifer turned on him, pinned him against the fence, and proceeded to break five of my grandfather’s ribs and bruised both of his lungs.

Then in a feat of superhuman effort he managed to scale the two metre fence to get to safety on the other side. Then he was taken to hospital where he is in a serious condition.

I said jokingly on Twitter the other night that I wonder who’d play him in the movie of the event, because I can’t help but think it was an act that befits the talents of Christian Bale or maybe Hugh Jackman to step in and replay.

Please, I ask you to think of him. He’s in terrible pain. If anything were to happen so close after losing dad I fear I would lose my shit. Undoubtedly, my mother would probably join me.

******

Arts Hub published a mini-interview with me during the week. I deliberately kept it brief, but it sums up how I feel on certain things pretty well, especially the first question. I was committed to becoming an archaeologist for many, many years. What made me change my mind? That can wait for another day…

I’m sure he’ll be fine, Karen. He sounds like a tough old bird. I’ll send over some positive thoughts and vibes his way.

Do take care of yourself during all this, too, okay?

Thinking of your grandad. And I vote for Hugh Jackman.

Maybe Harrison Ford in his younger days. I’ve always thought Poppy in his work clothes has the same tough, heroic air that Indiana Jones had in his similar rough ‘n tumble outfits.

And you’re not the only one who would lose it. Our family has had a MEGA MEGA MEGA CRAPPY past few months. Surely God will cut us a break sooner or later. Don’t these things come in threes? So this must be number three.
(Okay, maybe the flood is number 4).
