On Sunday, don’t ask me how, but my husband and I got onto discussing my uterus.
“I know I should have the vaccination,” said I.
“Then why don’t you?”
“Because my sister said it hurt,” said I, pouting. “Plus, I don’t get it for free. I’m just that little bit old. I have to pay for it.”
Adam looked at me witheringly. “I wonder if your miserly limits could ever possibly be found.”
Then, because he is male, his mind wandered elsewhere while I went on to provide further information regarding that little jab.
“It’s for the HPV virus.”
“What?” Adam’s attention came back to me. “The HP virus? Hewlett Packard? That’s why I’m an IBM man, myself. You can’t trust anybody else.”
Riiiigggghht.

Not sure how much it is at the moment for >25s, but my doc said I might as well get it while I can because after a time that the government deems reasonable they’d put the price up to $250–500. I don’t know how well informed she was or if it was cynical conjecture.
I’ve had all 3 now and only one of them hurt really. Tell you doctor to be gentle and you should be fine. The two ladies I had were good, the man doctor really jabbed me. I had a bruise two weeks later that I got to parade around a wedding…
1 outta 3 is ok.

Since I had a total hystorectomy 5 years ago, my doc said I didn’t need the shot. But I made sure both of my girls got it. And I totally agree with the comment above…it’ll be going up soon. Our health insurance didn’t cover it.
I’m also a miser, but there are times when spending a little money now is much better than the potential to spend a HUGE amount more later!

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but if you’re in a monogamous relationship (not an aspersion on either you or Adam!), I don’t think you need a vaccine against an STD.

I’m way too old for it and my daughter is too young. Who knows what the cost will be by the time she’s old enough.
But my flu shot the other day made me sicker than I’ve been in awhile.
Adam may need a shot for widening his attention span.
Jordan – Well I’m a bit fuzzy regarding who should have the shot but I was under the impression that it might not matter if you’re in a monognamus relationship now, but if either partner has a sexual history (which – er – we qualifiy for) then they could’ve contracted it and can still pass it on??
I should look it up…
Karen, I’m not sure whether HPV would have already been passed on by now or whether the vaccine works if you’ve already got it — be a good thing to find out.
Jordan, I asked my doctor the same thing and she said, “That’s fine now, but you don’t know what will happen.” I don’t want to wish bad luck upon people, far from it, but what if someone was raped, or what if your partner died and you were lucky enough to find someone else, but they had this infection? It’d sure be the icing on the cake to contract HPV and cervical cancer huh?
Might as well get the vaccination now while it’s available and as cheap as it’s going to be for a while.
