Is it just me?

Every so often I will be driving along in the car and go into a sudden panic. In these first seconds, honestly, I don’t know how I don’t crash.

I think, “Holy fuck, where are the kids? Where have I left them?”

A whole sequence of possibilities run through my head: I left them in the house, the garage, at school, at playgroup. My head hurts with the worry. I imagine being taken to task by some sort of governing body because of my lack of parenting skills. I enivsage the A Current Affair segment being aired, with me holding my hand up over my eyes in shame throughout the footage and me throwing a shoe at the television whenever Tracey Grimshaw comes on (oh, wait, that happens anyway…)

Then, I’ll look in the rear view mirror: at my children and their perky little faces staring back. All is normal. Nothing to worry about.

“What’s wrong, mum?”

Nothing.

They were just being quiet.

For once.

In those times, I almost wish they’d been fighting.

{Almost}

Unlurking to say I feel so much better after reading your post! Now I know that if this is a sign of insanity, I’m not there alone :)

My husband did leave one of the kids behind once. Admittedly older than yours – she was about 10, and had, unusually, accompanied him to watch her sister play netball. Only she went off mucking around on a spare court, and he forgot she’d come too. Left with eldest.. got a few hundred metres from the courts and got that feeling you have talked about. Only it was warranted. About turn to sheepishly collect a crying child amidst a bit of ribbing from other parents “Father of the Year, eh?!!” He’ll not ever live that one down.

This happened to us coming home from our holiday. Our new DVD player for the car came with headphones and the kids decided to try them. It was deathly quiet in the backseat and just felt so WRONG!!! LOL.

My copy of Surprise! arrived and I had so much fun reading it. I’m not well at the moment and can’t wait to be well enough to read it to my kids. They’re going to LOVE the concept introduced. I can just imagine what’s going to happen to library books of the future. LOL. I think every library should have a copy!!!!

At first, I thought you were slightly crazy, but by the end, I realized this was another adorable post.

Pepper – hello! Good to see you! And no you’re never alone :)

T – Oh, I can imagine him and the girls ribbing him too. hehe.

Lightening – Glad you love it! Awesome? Also? You want your library to stock it? Then go ask them! They tend to order books upon requests!

Michelle – and you’re adorable for saying so :) x
