As my mother is staying for a few days to help me out, my daughter has been very keen on using this time in showing off, “Just how much she knows about the adult world.”

This means narrating our existence in exquisite detail.

“Look Nanny we’re in the car! We’re going up the driveway now   Sometimes we turn left and sometimes we turn right  Look that car is blue! Our old car was blue  in that car I sat in Riley’s seat because Riley wasn’t born yet and and and…”

You get the idea.

Though one particular gem came out in her excitement.

{Driving past a sports field where some robust and very muddy men were playing Rugby.}

“Look, Nanny, they’re playing Grumpy!”

She continued:

“Daddy doesn’t play much sport, he used to play that* until he got too old and now he plays squish**.”
