I’ve just been told I will be unable to get an advance copy of Surprise! back by the time the Melbourne Writer’s Festival rolls around at the end of next month. Not that I was really thinking of doing a reading of it to a room full of adults - not unless they were happy to tap into their ‘inner child’, which, after a few drinks, who knows maybe they’d be happy to consider doing?
So that leaves this story but that will take too long I think for the time I’m allocated, unless I give a truncated version, or an extract.
Or, I was thinking, I could read out some of my ‘better’ blog posts from here. I’m not sure - do you have any particular favourites? Just a thought…

Hi Karen,
Belated C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S on winning the Alan Marshall award, on getting your children’s story finished, on being asked to speak at the Writers’ Festival… every time I read your blog you’re announcing something new and terrifically exciting! It’s quite inspirational, although you’ve put out one hell of a call to action to those of us who are still plugging away at our books and not getting very far (or is that just me?)
I would love to read “The Appointment” but can’t find a link to it anywhere… is it available online anywhere?
Good luck next month - if your presentation at the Emerging Writers’ Festival is anything to go by you’ll knock ‘em dead.
Cheers
Trish

Trish - no it’s still not available yet because “people” are still looking at it to publish it. And you’re such a sweetie, I’m so pleased I got to meet you there
Jayne - Maybe? You think? I’m not sure. We’ll see. Still thinking..

I could sit and listen to you read just about any of your blog posts. My only caveat would be not to use the er, nitty ones. You don’t want people getting the crawls in their seats.
