I have just finished reading this amazing book, perhaps you have heard of it – 365 Ways to Change the World. I urge everyone to go out and buy or borrow this because of its open optimism and generosity of hope. You finish and can’t help but be inspired.
Even if you don’t, here are some of my favourite picks from it. Links are provided, so you can do something from your own home. Other places ask for a modest personal contribution. They all cost you nothing, but you will have given so much.
Go Here. Look at the very top toolbar. For just one or two clicks of your mouse, you can also make a difference in the causes for:
- World Hunger
- Breast Cancer
- Child Health
- Literacy
- Rainforests
- Animal Rescue
You can also sign up for daily prompts to come back and do the same again. And again. And again….
These sites follow on a similar theme:
These following sites are specifically for Australian citizens, but there is almost certainly equivalent institutions in other countries.
- Give Blood
- Be an organ donor (Australia has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world. We can change this.)
- National Tree Day
- Recycle more of your green household waste. Estimates put the total amount of our green household waste (kitchen scraps etc) at between 30-40%. If we got that number down, that’s less that’s going into landfill and more into the garden, by means of composting or worm farming. We began our own worm farm on the weekend – more details on that over the next few days!
Edited: Plus one more!
- Thanks to Bub and Pie I’ve just learned of this site: Free Rice is a site where you can test your vocabulary skills, and for every word you get right they donate 10 grains of rice. So far, I’ve gotten five out of five right! I think this place will be addictive….

The Christmas Enterprise Christmas Party Invitation is now up! Hope you’ll be there!
A fine worthy post there.
You’re right about Free Rice being addictive. You only stayed for 5 words? I’ve lost count but I’m up to 500 grains of rice – and I’m miffed that I reached level 42 but have dropped to 39. I think I’ll be there till I at least get back up to where I was. I’ve never heard of some of those words!
Will have to check out all the other links. I do give blood, only I haven’t done so for a while after some personal health issues. Should get back there.
I only had time for the five at that time, but I will be back!
Wow, this list was amazing (and I love your blog). I just bookmarked you, must visit again. What a very worthy T13 post.
I spent ages at Free Rice! Your TT has very good advice for all of us.
Cool list! We’ve been composting for years; it’s a neat process.
Happy TT!
Free Rice is addictive. I got caravel wrong but other than that I’m having a blinder…
Insightful Post. We can all do something! Free rice is addicting, thanks for sharing. Happy TT.
Now, this is a beautiful list. Great. And, I’m loving that picture below this post!! LOL!
What a great list and Im glad you added giving blood. I work in a hospital and do it on a regular basis. I dont think people realize what a shortage of blood there really is. Everyone should do it!! It only takes a few moments of your time and it saves lives every day. Happy TT.
I think the best way to change the world is to help someone who is in need, when they are in need, and expect nothing back. Just be kind. Sometimes lives do change.
