Clothing Dilemma

This past weekend, my sister dropped in on us for a surprise visit. A surprise as she lives in Sydney - a whole state away.

So what do you do when you haven’t seen each other for a few months?

I’ll tell you what I do: I drag her into the bedroom so I can try on clothes in front of her, while I get her honest opinion on said outfits.

I’m sure that’s not why she came by; I’m sure she wanted to spend time with her niece and nephew, or some such sentimentality. So why did I hole her up in my room, as I sashayed around in complete undress, pinching my thigh fat going “PREGNANCY DOES THIS! BEWARE!”?

Because Adam and I are going to see The Phantom of the Opera in three weeks time and I have nothing to wear.

It’s been so long since I’ve gone out on the time, that I’ve discovered all my ‘hotness-factor-10′ outfits no longer fit around the thighs/ass. So I was desperately asking her “How does this look?” “Does this fit?” already knowing the answer, sure, I was just praying for a miracle.

The only thing that fits is a frilly-mumsy dress my mother gave me which is cut on the bias (which always looks awful on me) and I think a nice cocktail dress which I’ve loaned to a friend and I’m praying will still fit (Hey E! Do you still have it?)

This post really doesn’t have a point. I’m just venting.

On the plus side: I’m going out in a few weeks! To the theatre, dah-lings. Pass me the champagne! Air kisses all round!

[Go here and here. You know what to do.]

And I still say the mumsy dress wasn’t mumsy. I liked it.

oooooh the theatre! Sounds like fun, hope you find something to wear. I know how you feel, none of my clothes fit me anymore :(

I have a similar dilemma with my brother’s wedding coming up this weekend, but I have the opposite problem - all of my old clothes are too big, plus I got rid of a lot of outfits from before I was pregnant because I assumed I wouldn’t be thinner AFTER I had a baby!! Don’t think I’m being all smug though, I’m sure the weight will return once I’ve finished breastfeeding :P

Michelle - Well, I hate to put the fear of God in you, but yes I’ve put weight on since stopping breastfeeding. But that’s more to do with lack of exercise and being sick, I think. Go you for losing baby-weight though!

I’ve seen Phantom twice, once in NY and once in Nashville. I know what you mean about clothes. I have one summer dress and one winter dress in case I need to go to a wedding. They’re both loose fitting with ties in the back to adjust the fit. They both came from the Casual Living catalogue (a splurge, but definitely worth it - I’ve worn each of them at least 10 times).
